YouTube, the popular video streaming service owned by Alphabet, is rolling out a series of updates and improvements to enhance the user experience across various platforms. The company is introducing a total of “three dozen new features and design updates” to provide users with better volume controls, improved video seeking, and an enhanced liking and subscribing experience. Additionally, a new You tab has been added, allowing users to access account details and their watch history.
One of the new features introduced by YouTube is Stable Volume, designed to make the process of adjusting volume smoother and eliminate sudden jumps. This feature is now being rolled out to users and can be found in the video settings menu under Additional settings > Stable volume.
Another improvement is related to seeking within videos. Now, when watching a video in portrait or landscape mode, users can tap and hold on the right side of the screen to play the video at double the speed until they release their finger.
Furthermore, users can now scrub the video seek bar and easily return to the point where they had stopped watching, with haptic feedback. Mobile and tablet users also have the ability to lock the screen to prevent accidental touches while a video is playing.
In terms of engagement, YouTube has made it more visually appealing for users to like videos and subscribe to channels. When prompted by creators, these relevant buttons will be displayed with visual cues and animations upon user interaction. Additionally, within the first 24 hours after a video is uploaded, users will see real-time video counts.
YouTube has also introduced a new You tab, replacing the Library tab, placed on the bottom-right corner of the screen. This tab will contain a user’s previously watched videos, playlists, downloads, and purchases, along with account settings and channel details.
As for Android users, they will soon be able to search for songs by singing, humming, or playing them directly within the YouTube app. This feature utilizes AI and is already available in the Google app. It will be rolled out to Android smartphones over the next few weeks.
